HAND PAINTED CEILING PANEL
This extraordinary hand painted ceiling panel was originally housed on a ceiling in a large ‘Hawley’ room in a grand old town Haveli in Bikaner and must have made for a most impressive and majestic decoration alongside further panels covering it’s entirety. We felt extraordinarily privileged and humbled to have been offered this piece to buy and having never seen/come across one before, we had to bring it back to the shop, and help enable a new journey and new home…
Visual Description
This very colourful piece is prodominantly red and green, with various other detailing colours within the design. Dating to 1875-1885, this exceptional and rare piece depicts the ‘Raas Leela (Raslila), where it is described in the Bhagavata Purana and the Gita Govinda as where Krishna dances with Radha and Gopis of Braj – where whomever faithfully hears/describes the Rasa Lila attains Krishna’s ‘pure loving devotion’. There are metal rings on the front adn the back includes wooden struts.
Uses
The exquisite painting, after all this time, still radiates and shines with majestic brilliance – a truly outstanding, original and unique antique item that would make for a most impressive wall panel; simply stunning.
